The holidays are upon us and like many of you, I’ll be gathering with family to celebrate the occasion. I’m blessed to have many of the senior members of my family close by and I always look forward to hearing about their lives in retirement, but also their lives long ago.
One of the most enduring aspects of family gatherings is the reminiscing that inevitably happens during this time of the year. Looking back is a fun way to look forward. Whether you’re discussing a memorable Santa experience, an unusual gift or the time you were snowed in and the electricity went out, (that actually happened to me). it doesn’t make a difference. Because, when the senior members of your family talk about the holidays of their youth, that’s when the true magic happens.
I am fortunate enough to work in an industry that is filled with an amazing treasure trove of stories and history. Retirement communities are a valuable resource for seniors and their families because they allow the sharing of memories and the making of new ones. The benefits of living in a place where people with similar life experiences, built on a shared history, is invaluable.
If your family gathering this season includes parents, grandparents or even great grandparents, I strongly encourage you to talk about holidays past. Learn the history of your family and in turn, the history of our world. Enjoy the holidays!<< Blog
